Policy Benefits

Benefits provided during the travel period

The following benefit summary is taken from the previous Travel Protect brochure.

  • Emergency accident and medical expenses incurred overseas, including outpatient treatment, inpatient treatment, medical aid and emergency transportation for medical attention.
  • Follow-up treatment in Sri Lanka upon return, for a maximum of 30 days, to continue appropriate treatment for a covered injury or sickness.
  • Emergency medical evacuation.
  • Repatriation of mortal remains, including extra costs for medically necessary and prescribed transportation, an accompanying person when medically necessary, and transportation of mortal remains.
  • Hospital daily allowance for covered treatment and hospitalisation exceeding two days.
  • Emergency telephone charges.
Note: Non-emergency medical treatments, cosmetic treatments, treatments and check-ups related to pregnancy, and mental or psychiatric disorders are generally excluded.

  • Accidental death and permanent dismemberment (ADPD), including accidental death or subsequent disablement of the insured person during a trip abroad.
  • ADPD common-carrier double cover.
  • Local burial expenses.
  • Child education protection.
  • Compassionate visit.
  • Return of minor children.
Note: Natural death, accidents caused by mental disorders or disturbances, and death or injury resulting from curative measures not required by an accident are not covered.

  • Reimbursement for the total loss of baggage by a carrier, based on market value less a reasonable allowance for use, wear and tear, subject to police and other required reports.
  • Necessary emergency purchases of essential items where checked baggage is temporarily delayed by the carrier.
  • Reasonable and necessary reproduction costs for a lost passport and travel documents, subject to immediate reporting to the police.
Baggage note: Valuables, money, securities, tickets, partial baggage losses, and losses caused by delay, detention, confiscation or destruction by customs or public authorities are not covered.
Passport note: Losses caused by leaving documents unattended, delay, detention, confiscation or destruction by customs or public authorities are not covered.

  • Financial emergency assistance where travel funds kept in the insured person's custody are stolen, subject to immediate police reporting.
  • Trip postponement or cancellation, curtailment, trip delay, flight diversion, an overbooked flight and missed departure.
Note: Loss of traveller's cheques not immediately reported to local branches or agents, shortages, and losses not reported to the insurer within 30 days of the incident are not covered.

  • Liability where the insured person becomes legally liable to a third party under civil law for accidental death, injury or damage to property.
  • Hijack cover.
  • Golf Advantage, including loss of or damage to golf equipment and a special prize for a hole-in-one.
  • Home safety cover for the insured person's home property while travelling overseas, covering damage caused by fire, explosion and water.
  • Legal fees.
  • Rental vehicle excess.
  • Automatic extension of the travel period.
  • 24-hour emergency travel and medical assistance, including:
    • Pre-trip assistance service.
    • Medical service.
    • Emergency ticket service.
    • General assistance service.
    • Evacuation and repatriation service.
    • Baggage service.
